I was only fortunate enough to know Clarence for a few years, but even the simplest of conversations with him made you feel like you’d known him for a lifetime. Outside of drag racing, Clarence had an avid passion for portrait photography, which was a subject we discussed on many occasions. Though unbelievably talented, Clarence may very well have been the most humble person I’ve ever met. I can recall sitting in the VMP media center late one evening while he was editing photos. I looked up, and he had a photo of a breathtaking VMP sunset open on his computer screen. I said “Damn Clarence! That’s a killer shot, man!” to which he replied “I don’t know about all that, but I sure did enjoy taking it”. It was the simple things. You could have never spoken a single word to the man, but he’d drop everything he was doing to help you out. I only wish I’d known Clarence a little longer, but I’ll be forever grateful for the time spent together, and the lessons learned.
To a man who never had anything to say unless you did first, but never let me leave the track without shaking my hand and telling me to drive safe: rest easy my friend. Things will never quite be the same without you around…
Johnny Wrote: Clarence Hannon, you had Scott Soucy call me to the media suite at VMP. I walk in and you handed me a printed, framed picture and said this is a gift for you because you qualified number one. You didn’t know me at all. I told you to come by the trailer for a couple tshirts. You never did- that’s because you didn’t want anything in return. This picture is top notch and so are you. I’m sorry I didn’t get to know you more than I did, I’ll always regret that. But thank you sir, for being you. Godspeed.
Russell wrote: Rest In Peace Clarence Hannon. Gone way too soon; such a great and humble person to be around. The 10 years I’ve known Clarence, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him down, or negative, always happy.. Even when his car was broken. I’ll miss talking to you at VMP buddy. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later. We know you’ll be on the starting line watching us.
Amy Wrote: I really did not expect the first 20 post on my facebook to be about the GOAT Clarence Hannon passing away! That man was the sweetest, calmest, most sincere, best ever photographer I have ever met! My only regret is that I never got the pictures he took of the girls at VMP’S Grudge N Treat 2020!!!! And guess it will always make me laugh when I tell Ben, Clarence always said,” I’m gonna get a picture of that boy someday!” Cause somehow Ben was in every car picture he took from 2019-2020….Rest easy Clarence Hannon!
